Direct from Japan

April 18th, 2006 by auditory

Order from HLJ arrived some days back. Was playing dota and pwning my friends with pudge when suddenly some annoying distinctive horns that belongs to a cheap motorcycle were honked. Opened the door and saw this postman who looked like he could use some kicking in the rear, with his shades covering his mouth (OMG lame) he asked for confirmation of the address, "u dun want my signature meh?", well guess not, it was delivered with SAL, not EMS.

So these are the stuff I bought from HLJ. All sums up about 7000yen/RM200+ together with the 900yen shipping. I was particularly delighted of the SAL shipping, took only about less than two weeks to arrive and reasonable shipping charge. So back to the stuff I ordered, I got myself some sets of hobby tools, namely Olfa Art knife, tweezers, side cutter, brushes, etc.

Also bought a 1/72 scale TIE fighter model kit from Fine Molds, scroll down and you’ll see my previous post about it. I’m however unable to complete this superb kit due to absence of cement and appropriate paints. My next order will probably cover all that.

First exams over, here are some of my thoughts over the subjects :

  • EST - Questions are more or less the same with form 3, except articles have something to do with science and technology. I’m really pissed off when they decide to retake the essay which took away my advantage over those fools who didn’t read the question properly.
*OMG n00b teacher gave me 62%

  • PAI - Doesn’t look too bad…
    *OMG typical. 71%

  • SEJ - Objective questions were answered with sheer confidence, section B I got pwned… On the other hand I’ve no problem with the essay, though some of you might not share my optimistic appraisal of the situation *ripped from Darth Vader
    *OMG OMG 65%

  • BM - I hate BM…
    *ZOMG 41% = D7 o_O!

  • BIO - The subject everyone feared turned out to be the least difficult of the science subjects. I’m not saying it was easy though… Eh, did someone said endoplasmic reticulum is hairy? Guffaw! :p
    *OMG 66%

  • ENG - Meh. Haven’t enough time for continous writing, big mistake for me to go for section A first, which produced two pages of essay for crappy marks. However paper 2 was a breeze, ample amount of time causes least pressure.
    *OMG 78%

  • CHE - Reasonably hard, I admit that I didn’t read much. Managed to exchange few answers with kua and so did some of my friends.
    *OMG 63%

  • PHY - Arguably the toughest, answered all questions, some I filled with shit. Desperate times calls for desperate measures, exchange of answers happened everywhere. Soleh even managed to borrow (Obi?) Wan’s answer sheet and copied. As usual, commented the paper with "A1 doh aku" lol…
    *OMG 85%

  • +MATHS - haha, sodomy… Wasted time with the time-consuming question, together with the fact that I’m not very proficient in maths, doubles the time needed.
    *OMG phailed 58%

  • MMATHS (97%) - No pressure, lazy to check, I don’t really like maths, no intention for 100% so good enough for me.

VOICE NewType

Asked my dad to buy me NewType magazine in S’pore the other day but I get this instead. VOICE NewType is apparently magazine about seiyuu (voice actor), as you can see below the content of the magazine is filled with pictures of seiyuu (to drool) and other crap relevant to them. To have ppl fetish for voice actors just shows how popular the anime industry is in Japan. I don’t really mind this thing, it’d be a great addition to my fetish item collection. In below pic, we can tell that voice actors try their best to potray the characters they voice act >.<

PriceThough I think I got ripped by those damned s’porean. WTF, They overcharged this thing for about 7 bucks more. Even with the shipping cost, it should be around S$17.

1/72 TIE Fighter

My next target is the Imperial TIE fighter from Fine Molds. Fine Molds is a japanese company and only recently began their line of Star Wars kits, there aren’t many to choose but their kits has been known for their superb

details, and picture evidence suggests so. Painting is made easy thanks to Fine Molds’ idea of having seperate solar panel parts, which eliminates the need of tedious masking jobs. The kit includes stand and two stormtrooper figures and costs some 2200yen/RM70, quite decent priced. Local availibility seems to be the issue, I would have to order this from HLJ. Haizz, though I have the money, my dad still reluctant to give his credit card number.

My Artworks

March 17th, 2006 by auditory

Incidentally my dad got some documents to be scanned and brought home his scanner from his office. Finally got the chance to scan some of my works, but below are just some of my recents works only. My past works has vanished along with the pile of papers full of my failure scribbles and sketches. Scans are resized and cropped to hide other sketches around it.

My drawings are still stiff or "kaku", still dun have the flexibility to draw in various poses, thus making my characters less ‘lively’. Practice is one thing I lacked and I noticed just how much I spend less time on drawing nowadays, I mostly sit on the computer chair. I guess my desk just lacks appeal and the force doesn’t seem to flow throughout the desk. And I’ve yet to train the flexibility on drawing fingers, hands, legs and bodies.

Star Wars : Empire At War

March 4th, 2006 by auditory

Lucas Arts latest game for the everpopular Star Wars series, surprisingly not involving the quest of becoming a jedi, Empire At War is a real time strategy. Correct me if I’m wrong, but this is probably their first Star Wars RTS. As a Star Wars junkie, I didn’t miss my chance playing this great game.

Empire at War features both land and space battles. I have to admit that the space battles are fun and is easier than it seems; You conquer the universe by invading planets, you’ll encounter space battles first if the enemy has space units or space station on the orbit of the planet, then you will proceed with ground battles. Downside is the map size, basically one planet is one map - LOL that is so small. Also, I think the vehicles are a bit too fragile. Best thing is you can choose to conquer the galaxy with either the empire or the rebellion; X-Wings are cool, but for me the choice is obvious, empire pwns.

Space and land battles.

Like other RTS games nowadays, three dimensional graphics is a prerequisite. Empire at War, being released early this year is undoubtedly equipped with up to date game engine. Everything from unit details to weather effects looked acceptably good, except for some minor glitches during cinematic close-ups. Music features soundtracks from the movies, fans will enjoy the music here. Rock solid 8 out of 10.

Change of Plans

March 3rd, 2006 by auditory

Oh_canada_by_cassian_3

Previously I’ve established that I have to go study in Japan no matter what. After reconsidering all the options, possibilities and consequences, I might want to disregard that statement. First of all, I’m supposed to be a doctor, going Japan and study medics? Big mistake, even if I become a doctor, I won’t go far in Japan (cannot take specialization). I would also like to keep the edge on english, living japanese might fade my proficiency in english. And it’s such a waste too.

The solution to this unexpected problem is, CANADA! It’s just perfect, and makes sense too. Canada is somewhat like the States minus all the negatives. Like the States, Canada is made up of various distinctive races, cultures and beliefs. Which enables me to live the lifestyle of my origins, heck there should be more than enough asian immigrants there.

So my plan is to get into A-level (after scoring 12As in SPM w00t), I may need some scholarship too, obviously it won’t be cheap. I will take medical sciences and somehow get my arse to Canada. After becoming a doctor, I will take specialization in heart diseases. I’m not sure how long it will take but, I dun want to study longer than a decade lol my head’ll explode. When I get a job in a prestigeous hosptial in Canada I will get a canadian girl of asian descend to be me wife. Alternatively, I could get someone from my homeland (or M’sia lol). Either way I will request for Canadian citizenship and spend the rest of my life in Canada. From time to time I will visit Japan :D

This will be my next must-buy item. This character is apparently from a PC game called Ringetsu, after digging some facts, it is actually an adult game : Getchu Link. LOL this is quite unique, a semi-nude figure from an eroge (erotic game), and you certainly dun hav to be a fan to love this figure, definitely must-have. According to some sources, this figure will only be released by Toys Planning at the end of April. Not sure about the scale but it stands 17cm tall, standard retail price 4000yen. I’ve got more than enough on me pocket but still hoping for its availability in the local toys & figures retailer, XL-Shop.

English Is But A Life

February 21st, 2006 by auditory

Yay, the first essay exercise my teach gave me after weeks of literature components. Good god, it really had been a while since I last write an essay, the long hibernation really froze me brain, it didn’t go smoothly and took me quite a long time too, maybe two periods lol, but I did my best. And I think it was long, one and a half page in narrow lines foolscap paper.

I really thought that I just sent a bomb, but it turned out shocking. I was surprised at how many grammar errors I made, though the teach did compliment me on good sentence structure and vocab, grammar mistakes only allowed me to get a D (28/50). My marks is considered a good start though, my friends getting 8-16, which, if I’m not mistaken is ungraded. "The first time we should just laught about it", so she says after telling a story of his student who got ungraded where he got A for PMR lol, as he overcame the obstacles he passed SPM english A with his essay A2. z0MG ME FAILS IN ENGLISH, HOW TO TAKE ENGLISH 1119 LIKE THIS? lol lol chill out dudes, I really need to buckle down and read some books. It’s tough, but I’d say it’s challenging, english is one subject I don’t mind dying  to try to master it.

The marking standards have really been raised, and yea I do agree that PMR is too generous with the marks. PMR is shite, 8As dun even worth a pound of shite, I realized that all was too over-rated for PMR. LOL this blog is shite too, it won’t help me anyway in english, but chill! Tis’ just for fun.

Airbrush

February 6th, 2006 by auditory

I mentioned that I decided to get myself an airbrush set. I’ve yet to do some research on airbrush, one good source is Child of Mecha’s ‘The Airbrush Thread’, since it’s a forum thread, it will take quite a while to read all the posts page by page and compile the data. For the time being, I came up with the setup below :

  • Mr.Linear Compressor Petit-Com - ¥13000
    Gun519594b

  • Procon Boy SAe Single Action - ¥7800
    Gun516784b

  • Mr. Air Regulator with Mr. Air Hose & Stand - ¥2800
    Gun517675b

  • Mr. Stand & Tray - ¥1000
  • Mr. Air Hose 1/8(S) Spiral - ¥2300
  • Mr. Joint Set - ¥1200

The compressor is Gunze’s Petit-com, I chose it because of the reasonable price and simple design, it is also the same compressor Danny Choo uses. For the airbrush, I preferred Gunze’s Procon Boy SAe Single Action ( Double Action looks difficult to use, not to mention the price ). Honestly I’m kind of a Gunze Sangyo fanboy, that’s why I got the entire setup from Gunze. Grand Total : ¥28 100 / RM885
